Microdiscectomy and fusion or arthoplasty

Arthroplasty is the process of removing some or all of the worn-out discs. It is then replaced with artificial discs. Minimally invasive discectomy is done with the aim of providing long-term pain relief in the back part that may also spread to the legs. What happens during
the procedure?

  • At Prime Surgery Center, the pain specialist will diagnose the condition in detail prior to making a surgery plan.
  • The patient is given local anesthesia and then the procedure begins
  • During the procedure, a small incision is made, and the herniated/damaged portion of the intervertebral disc is removed using specialized surgical tools
  • During fusion, two or more vertebrae  are fused together to eliminate motion between them and in arthroplasty, the damaged disc is replaced with an artificial disc
